The Electro-Coatings, Inc. site is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. An active metal plating facility is located on site. The Electro-Coatings plant has been in operation since 1947. In March 1976, groundwater from a neighboring industrial well was found to contain high levels of chromium. Sampling traced the contamination to a leaking concrete tank containing chromic acid at the Electro-Coatings plant. The company took action to prevent further releases in response to state requirements. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities and monitoring are ongoing.
