Public Participation Opportunities
EPA and the Navy ensure community members know about and participate in site issues and activities by issuing fact sheets on cleanup activities, facilitating Restoration Advisory Board meetings, conducting community interviews, maintaining a community relations plan, and holding regular public meetings to explain proposed plans and cleanup timetables. The Restoration Advisory Board meets twice a year and has civilian and military co-chairs. Additionally, EPA and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry provided community members with health assessments.
Community involvement is the process of engaging in dialogue and collaboration with community members. The goal of Superfund community involvement is to advocate and strengthen early and meaningful community participation during Superfund cleanups.
