EPA NPL field teams have conducted a field assessment of this Site and determined that no related storm impacts or releases have occurred as a result of Hurricane Florence.

d of Decision (ROD) for Horton Iron and Metal on September 6, 2018.  The ROD documents the technologies to use to cleanup the site's soil, groundwater and onsite boat slip sediments.  The responsible parties have been paying for the investigation of the site up to now.  The responsible parties should start the Remedial Design (RD) in 2019.  The  RD will involve performing pilot tests of the selected technologies to test how effective they are.

Public Participation Opportunities

EPA conducts a range of community involvement activities to solicit community input and to make sure the public remains informed about site activities throughout the cleanup process. Outreach efforts have included public notices, public meetings and interviews on clean-up activities and other updates.
