Community Resources

The Horton Iron and Metal site is currently in continued use. A metal recycling facility operates on a portion of the Site. A scrap yard and metal recycling business operates on the western half of the site, just east of Highway 421. An active rail line cuts north-to-south through the middle of the site. The eastern portion of the site is vacant. Two boat slips are also located on the eastern edge of the site.

Previous Public Participation Opportunities

The EPA hosted two public availability sessions for the community in September 2010 and August 2011 at the New Hannover County public library.

Stay Informed and Involved

EPA is conducting a range of community involvement activities to solicit community input and to make sure the public remains informed about site activities throughout the cleanup process. Outreach efforts have included public notices and public availability sessions. The EPA is currently also working on a community involvement plan for the site.
