Announcements and Key Topics

A Record of Decision (ROD) that documents the cleanup decision for Operable Unit 2 (OU2) was signed in September 2016. Remedial design and construction are underway and are expected to be completed by 2020 but are dependent on continued federal funding.

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality (UDEQ) and EPA are also conducting the fourth five-year review of the Jacobs Smelter Superfund site. The purpose of the five-year review is to make sure that the cleanup actions completed to date are adequately protecting human health and the environment. The five-year review is scheduled to be completed by September 2020.

Community members are always encouraged to share information that may help EPA make determinations regarding the protectiveness and effectiveness of the remedies at the site.
