Open House: EPA hosted an open house meeting on March 28, 2019 at the Orcutt Academy Charter School in the town of Casmalia. The open house provided an opportunity for community members to meet EPA representatives and learn more about the site and upcoming design and construction activities. See related article. Link After EPA completed the Record of Decision (ROD) in June 2018, work will transition into phased engineering design and construction.

AOC 99-02(k): Administrative Order on Consent (AOC) 99-02(k), which resolves the liability of 104 parties is now final. A copy of the AOC can be found here.

EPA signed the Record of Decision (ROD) selecting final cleanup activities at the site: More information can be found in this news release. The Record of Decision has been uploaded to this website and can be found at Volume 1 (narrative text, tables, and figures) and Volume 2 (appendices).

Proposed Plan & Fact Sheet: In mid-November 2017, EPA issued a Proposed Plan and Fact Sheet for the Casmalia Resources Superfund Site. The Proposed Plan addresses contaminated soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water, and sediment at the site.  The Proposed Plan outlines recommended final cleanup activities and ways to manage contamination at the site.  It also outlines long-term operations, maintenance, and environmental monitoring for the site.  The Proposed Plan and a Fact Sheet summarizing the Proposed Plan in English and Spanish are included on this web site.

Public Comment Period & Hearing: The public comment period for the Proposed Plan closed on Monday, January 22, 2018. EPA held a 60-day public comment period from November 22, 2017 through January 22, 2018. EPA also held a public hearing at Orcutt Academy Charter School, 3491 Point Sal Road, Casmalia, California 93429, on December 6, 2017. Feasibility Study:  In April 2016, EPA approved a final feasibility study (FS) for the site.  The FS studies different ways to clean up or manage contamination for the site.  The FS can be found here.

Public Participation Opportunities

EPA will be hosting an Open House Meeting on March 28, 2019 at the Orcutt Academy Charter School in the town of Casmalia. The Open House will be conducted from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 3491 Point Sal Road, Casmalia CA. The open house will be an opportunity to meet EPA representatives and learn more about the site and upcoming site activites.

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The public comment period for the Proposed Plan closed on January 22, 2018. EPA was seeking public input on the Proposed Plan from November 22, 2017 through January 22, 2018. Please see the Fact Sheet linked below for contact information if you seek further information.

PUBLIC MEETING: EPA conducted a public meeting on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. EPA presented the proposed plan, and the public was invited to give written and oral comments for the record. The meeting took place at the Orcutt Academy Charter School, 3491 Point Sal Road, Casmalia, California 93429 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Spanish speaking interpreter was present at the meeting.
