Cleanup begins at Lockheed West Seattle!

The Lockheed West Seattle Superfund remedial action begins on August 13, 2018. The site is located at the head of the West Waterway of the Duwamish on Elliott Bay.  The Lockheed Martin Corporation will begin the cleanup by removing pilings in the shipway near the shoreline and debris throughout the site. They then will begin dredging contaminated sediments within a 15-acre area that is predominantly intertidal area, shipway and dry docks.  A thin-layer of dredge material residual layer/enhanced natural recovery layer will be placed throughout the 40-acre site.  Transloading facilities on the Lower Duwamish Waterway will be used to send the material for final disposal to Rubanco and/or Columbia landfills.  Work is expected to be completed by mid-February 2019.
