The former South Weymouth Naval Air Station is located in the towns of Weymouth, Abington and Rockland in southeastern Massachusetts. It was an active facility until it closed in September 1997 under the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Act of 1990. Wastes generated by the facility while it was operating contaminated soil and groundwater. Following immediate actions to protect human health and the environment, long-term cleanup, operation and maintenance activities, and monitoring are ongoing.
