NAVAL WEAPONS INDUSTRIAL RESERVE PLANT
Superfund Site Profile
The 46-acre Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant (NWIRP) is part of a larger industrial complex located immediately north of Hanscom Air Force Base, which is also listed on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL). NWIRP is operated by the Raytheon Company and was established in 1952 when a missile and radar development laboratory was built. NWIRP is currently used for advanced technology research in weapons systems development. Facility operations contaminated wastes and groundwater with hazardous chemicals. The site’s long-term cleanup is ongoing.
