EPA Superfund Program: DENZER & SCHAFER X-RAY CO., BAYVILLE, NJ

Superfund Site Profile

The 5-acre Denzer & Schafer X-Ray Company site is located in Bayville, New Jersey. Reclamation of silver from both microfilm and X-ray negatives took place at the site. Initial sampling found groundwater was contaminated with heavy metals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs are potentially harmful contaminants that can easily evaporate into the air. Following a short-term cleanup and site investigations, EPA determined that low levels of contamination in the groundwater no longer pose a significant risk to human health and the environment. EPA took the site off the Superfund program’s National Priorities List in December 1998.
