EPA Superfund Program: M&T DELISA LANDFILL, ASBURY PARK, NJ

Superfund Site Profile

The M&T Delisa Landfill site is located in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Municipal wastes were disposed of at the 132-acre area from 1945 to 1975. Seaview Square Mall was built on about 25 to 30 acres of the landfill in 1976. In 1980, EPA observed leachate seeping from the site into a nearby stream that empties into Deal Lake. After a study indicated that the site is not a source of significant concentrations of any hazardous substances, EPA took the site off the Superfund program’s National Priorities List in March 1991. The State of New Jersey is addressing the site under state solid waste disposal regulations.
