EPA Superfund Program: COMBE FILL SOUTH LANDFILL, CHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ

Superfund Site Profile

The Combe Fill South Landfill site is located in Chester and Washington townships in Morris County, New Jersey.  It is an inactive municipal landfill covering about 115 acres.  Procedures at the landfill during its operation violated many of the New Jersey solid waste administrative codes, leading to groundwater contamination with volatile organic compounds (VOCs).  VOCs are potentially harmful contaminants that easily evaporate in the air.  The site’s containment remedy has been put in place.  Long-term operation and maintenance activities are ongoing.
