Superfund Site Profile

The Florence Land Recontouring (FLR) Landfill site is located in the townships of Florence, Mansfield and Springfield in Burlington County, New Jersey. The 60-acre site comprises of a 29-acre landfill, two leachate collection lagoons, a pond believed to have been formed by excavation of soils, which were used as landfill cover material, and two empty tanks. The FLR Landfill was operated as a municipal solid waste disposal facility from 1973 until late 1981, and the State of New Jersey licensed it to accept sanitary and non-chemical industrial wastes.
The requirements specified in the 1986 remedy were completed by early 1994. A long-term groundwater/surface water monitoring plan and operation & maintenance (O&M) plan are ongoing.

Site Responsibility: The site is being addressed through State and Federal oversight activities.
