EPA Superfund Program: SOUTH BRUNSWICK LANDFILL, SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ

Superfund Site Profile

The South Brunswick Township Landfill site is located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The 68-acre area
was a landfill for over 20 years before its closure in 1978. The landfill received municipal refuse, pesticides, chemical wastes and hazardous wastes. Landfill operations contaminated groundwater and surface water with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs are potentially harmful contaminants that can easily evaporate into the air. After site investigations, EPA put the site’s long-term remedy in place.
Following cleanup, EPA took the site off the National Priorities List in February 1998.
