Superfund Site Profile

The Hertel Landfill site is located in Plattekill, New York. The 80-acre area is an inactive waste disposal area. It was established in 1963 as a municipal waste landfill. Until 1977, about 15 acres of the land were used for disposal, contaminating soil, groundwater and surface water with hazardous chemicals. Following cleanup activities, long-term groundwater monitoring is ongoing. Under current conditions at the site, potential or actual human exposures are under control.
