Superfund Site Profile
The Rowe Industries site is located in Sag Harbor, New York. From the 1950s through the early 1960s, Rowe Industries, Inc. manufactured small electric motors at transformers at the 8-acre area. Solvents stored on the property leaked into the groundwater and formed a 500-foot-wide plume that extended northward to Sag Harbor Creek. Groundwater and soil are contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are potentially harmful contaminants that can easily evaporate into the air.
After immediate actions to protect human health and the environment, the site’s long-term remedy was put in place. Soil cleanup finished in 2003. Contact with contaminated groundwater and soil is no longer a concern. Groundwater treatment and monitoring are ongoing.
