EPA Superfund Program: MID-ATLANTIC WOOD PRESERVERS, INC., HARMANS, MD

Superfund Site Profile

The 3.2-acre Mid-Atlantic Wood Preservers, Inc. site is located in Harmans, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The community surrounding the site is mixed industrial, commercial, and residential. The site is adjacent to the Baltimore-Washington International airport. From 1974 to 1993, Mid-Atlantic Wood Preservers, Inc. operated a facility which pressure-treated wood with chromated copper arsenate (CCA). A spill from a CCA preservative storage tank and drippings from a wood-drying area contaminated soil and groundwater at the site. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities are ongoing. EPA took the site off the Superfund program’s National Priorities List in July 2000.
