EPA Superfund Program: BOARHEAD FARMS, BRIDGETON TOWNSHIP, PA

Superfund Site Profile

The 120-acre Boarhead Farms site is located in Bridgeton Township, Pennsylvania. The current owner, the Boarhead Corporation, purchased the property in 1969 and began storing and disposing of hazardous materials in burial pits and directly on the ground surface. Early investigations revealed improper storage of chemicals at the site, leaking 55-gallon drums, pools of chemicals along the access road, uncontrolled wastes in containers, buried drums and chemical releases from tanker trucks. Site activities contaminated groundwater, surface water and sediment. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities are ongoing.
