EPA Superfund Program: OHIO RIVER PARK, NEVILLE ISLAND, PA

Superfund Site Profile

The 32-acre Ohio River Park site is located on Neville Island in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. A municipal waste landfill for Neville Township operated at the site from the 1930s until the mid-1950s. In 1978, Allegheny County began developing the site as a park, but stopped construction after discovery of industrial waste. Waste disposal practices contaminated soil and groundwater with hazardous chemicals. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities are ongoing.
