EPA Superfund Program: ENTERPRISE AVENUE, PHILADELPHIA, PA

Superfund Site Profile

The 57-acre Enterprise Avenue Landfill site is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From 1971 through 1976, the City of Philadelphia used the site to dispose of incineration residue, fly ash and bulky debris. Several waste handling firms also used the site to illegally bury drums containing industrial and chemical wastes. These waste disposal practices contaminated soil and groundwater with hazardous chemicals. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities are ongoing. EPA took the site off the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1986.
