Superfund Site Profile

The 178-acre Old City of York Landfill site is located in Seven Valleys, Pennsylvania. A landfill operated on 56 acres of the site from 1961 to 1975. The landfill received predominantly municipal waste with some commercial and industrial wastes. In 1981, EPA and state investigators found the landfill was contaminating groundwater with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the chemical components of solvents. This site was proposed to the National Priorities List (NPL) on December 30, 1982 and formally added to the list September 8, 1983.
