EPA Superfund Program: SAEGERTOWN INDUSTRIAL AREA, SAEGERTOWN, PA

Superfund Site Profile

The 100-acre Saegertown Industrial Area site is located in Saegertown, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Four companies occupied land in the industrial area: the LORD Corporation (LORD), an adhesives, urethane coatings and "rubber chemicals" manufacturer; Saegertown Manufacturing Corporation (SMC), a steel components manufacturer; Spectrum Controls Incorporated (SCI), a ceramic capacitor manufacturer; and General American Transportation Company (GATX), a railroad car repair facility. Past operations at these facilities contaminated a Saegertown Municipal Water Authority supply well (Well #2) as well as soil, sediment and groundwater with hazardous chemicals. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities are ongoing at the LORD property.
