EPA Superfund Program: TAYLOR BOROUGH DUMP, TAYLOR BOROUGH, PA

Superfund Site Profile

The 125-acre Taylor Borough Dump site is located in Taylor Borough, Pennsylvania. The City of Scranton used the former underground and strip mine as a municipal dump from 1964 to 1968. Illegal dumping of 1,200 drums containing hazardous organic chemicals and heavy metals took place. Waste disposal activities contaminated air, soil, surface water, sediment and groundwater. Following cleanup, EPA took the site off the Superfund program's National Priorities List (NPL) in 1999. Operation and maintenance activities and monitoring are ongoing.
