LEHIGH ELECTRIC & ENGINEERING CO.
OLD FORGE, PA
Superfund Site Profile
The 5.5-acre Lehigh Electric & Engineering Co. Site is in Old Forge, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. The Site was part of a coal processing facility. From the mid-1970s to 1981, an electrical equipment repair and storage yard for about 4,000 transformers and capacitors operated on the Site. Improper handling and disposal of dielectric fluids containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) resulted in soil and debris contamination. EPA listed the Site on the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL) in September 1983. Following cleanup, the Site was deleted from the NPL in March 1986. Operation and maintenance activities are ongoing.
