EPA Superfund Program: FIKE CHEMICAL, INC., NITRO, WV

Superfund Site Profile

The Fike Chemical site is located in Nitro, West Virginia. The site consists of two parcels – an 11-acre parcel where chemical processing took place, and a 1-acre parcel containing the former Cooperative Sewage Treatment (CST) plant. The CST plant treated stormwater and wastewater generated by the Fike Chemical plant. The site owner disposed of hazardous materials by burying them or placing them in on-site lagoons. Operations at the site ended in 1988. Site activities contaminated soil and groundwater with hazardous chemicals. Remedy construction is underway.
