EPA Superfund Program: CITY INDUSTRIES, INC., ORLANDO, FL

Superfund Site Profile

The 1-acre City Industries, Inc. site is located in Winter Park, Florida. The site includes the area where City Chemical Company operated a waste management facility from 1971 to 1983. EPA placed the site on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1989 because of contaminated soil and groundwater resulting from facility operations. EPA and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) have investigated site conditions and taken steps to clean up the site in order to protect people and the environment from contamination. Site contamination does not currently threaten people living and working near the site. Both residents and businesses use the public water system for drinking water. By treating groundwater and undertaking Five-Year Reviews, EPA, FDEP and the site’s potentially responsible parties (PRPs) continue to protect people and the environment from site contamination.
