EPA Superfund Program: SONFORD PRODUCTS, FLOWOOD, MS

Superfund Site Profile

The Sonford Products site is located in Flowood, Mississippi. It includes an area where two separate chemical processing plants operated from 1972 to 1985. EPA placed the site on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 2007 because of contaminated soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater resulting from plant operations. EPA and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) have investigated site conditions and taken steps to clean up the site in order to protect people and the environment from contamination. A municipal water supply well provides residences and businesses near the site to the public water. By cleaning up the site and monitoring groundwater, EPA and MDEQ continue to protect people and the environment from site contamination.
