EPA Superfund Program: WALCOTTE CHEMICAL CO. WAREHOUSES, GREENVILLE, MS

Superfund Site Profile

The Walcotte Chemical Co. Warehouses site is located in Greenville, Mississippi. It includes the area where a chemical and fertilizer mixing plant operated from 1953 to the early 1960s. EPA proposed the site for listing on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1981 because of contaminated materials resulting from facility operations. EPA, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and the site’s potentially responsible parties (PRPs) have investigated site conditions and taken steps to clean up the site in order to protect people and the environment from contamination. Site contamination does not currently threaten people living and working near the site. By removing contaminated materials, EPA, MDEQ and the site’s PRPs have protected people and the environment from site contamination.
