EPA Superfund Program: FLOWOOD SITE, FLOWOOD, MS

Superfund Site Profile

The 225-acre Flowood site is located in Flowood, Mississippi. It includes the area where various manufacturing facilities have operated since the 1940s. EPA placed the site on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1983 because of contaminated sediment and soil resulting from facility operations. EPA, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and United Gas Pipe Line Company, Continental Group, Rival Manufacturing and the Mannon Group, the site’s potentially responsible parties (PRPs), have investigated site conditions and taken steps to clean up the site in order to protect people and the environment from contamination. Site contamination does not currently threaten people living and working near the site. By undertaking Five-Year Reviews, EPA, MDEQ and the site’s PRPs continue to protect people and the environment from site contamination.
