EPA Superfund Program: ABC ONE HOUR CLEANERS, JACKSONVILLE, NC

Superfund Site Profile

The 1-acre ABC One Hour Cleaners site is located on Lejeune Boulevard in Jacksonville, Onslow County, North Carolina. It includes an area where there was a dry cleaning facility from 1964 to 2005 and a dry cleaning drop-off location from 2005 to 2011. EPA placed the site on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1989 because of contaminated groundwater and soil resulting from facility operations. EPA and the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) have investigated site conditions and taken steps to clean up the site in order to protect people and the environment from contamination. Site contamination does not currently threaten people living and working near the site. By treating groundwater and soil, placing institutional controls on the site, and conducting required Five-Year Reviews, EPA and NCDENR continue to protect people and the environment from site contamination.
