EPA Superfund Program: LEONARD CHEMICAL CO., INC., ROCK HILL, SC

Superfund Site Profile

The 7-acre Leonard Chemical Co., Inc. site is located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. It includes the area where Leonard Chemical Company operated a waste treatment facility from the late 1960s to 1982. EPA placed the site on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1984 because of contaminated soil, groundwater and liquid waste resulting from facility operations. EPA, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) and the site’s potentially responsible parties (PRPs) have investigated site conditions and taken steps to clean up the site in order to protect people and the environment from contamination. Site contamination does not currently threaten people living and working near the site. By treating groundwater, EPA, SCDHEC and the site’s PRPs continue to protect people and the environment from site contamination.
