EPA Superfund Program: SEYMOUR RECYCLING CORP., SEYMOUR, IN

Superfund Site Profile

The 14-acre Seymour Recycling Corporation site is located southwest of Seymour in Jackson County, Indiana. From 1970 to 1980, a processing center for waste chemicals operated on site. By 1980, when the facility closed, there were about 98 storage tanks and 50,000 drums on site. Surface drums and tanks and their contents were removed in 1981 and 1982. Private water supply wells for the residences within a mile of the site have been disconnected. The homes now connect to the City of Seymour’s public water supply system. Following cleanup including a landfill cap, soil and groundwater treatment systems, operation and maintenance activities are ongoing.
