EPA Superfund Program: BENDIX CORP./ALLIED AUTOMOTIVE, ST. JOSEPH, MI

Superfund Site Profile

The Bendix Corp./Allied Automotive site is located four miles south of St. Joseph in Berrien County, Michigan. Contamination comes from two source areas at the former Bendix Automotive plant, now owned and operated by Bosch Braking Systems. During the plant’s history, the chlorinated solvents tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and trichloroethylene (TCE) were discharged to unlined lagoons, resulting in soil and groundwater contamination. Following construction of the site’s long-term remedy, groundwater treatment and monitoring are ongoing.
