EPA Superfund Program: WASH KING LAUNDRY, PLEASANT PLAINS TWP, MI

Superfund Site Profile

The Wash King Laundry (WKL) site is located near Baldwin, Michigan. WKL began dry cleaning operations in 1962 and used the solvent perchloroethylene (PCE). In the dry cleaning process, solvents and laundry waste discharged into seepage lagoons. These operations contaminated lagoon sediments, soil and groundwater with hazardous chemicals. The contaminated groundwater plume extends from the seepage lagoons to the Pere Marquette River. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities are ongoing.
