EPA Superfund Program: WAITE PARK WELLS, WAITE PARK, MN

Superfund Site Profile

The Waite Park Wells site is located in the cities of Waite Park and St. Cloud, in Stearns County, Minnesota. It consists of a contaminated groundwater plume that impacted the City of Waite Park’s municipal drinking water wells, and nearby properties thought to be the source of that contamination. The nearby properties are State-listed Superfund sites known as the Electric Machinery site, a 45 acre property located in the city of St. Cloud, and the Burlington Northern Car Shop site, a 202 acre property located in the city of Waite Park . The former Burlington Northern property included a railcar maintenance facility and the former Electric Machinery property included a gas turbine and electric generator manufacturing facility. Facilities at both properties contaminated soil and groundwater.
