EPA Superfund Program: DAKHUE SANITARY LANDFILL, CANNON FALLS, MN

Superfund Site Profile

The Dakhue Sanitary Landfill covers 25 acres of an 80-acre area in Dakota County, Minnesota. From 1971 to 1988, a privately owned and state-permitted sanitary landfill operated on site. The landfill was used for the disposal of mixed municipal and commercial waste and small amounts of industrial waste. Facility operations contaminated groundwater with hazardous chemicals. Following cleanup, EPA took the site off the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1995. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) currently oversees operation and maintenance of the site’s remedy under its Closed Landfill Program.
