Superfund Site Profile

The 70-acre Powell Road Landfill site is located in Dayton, Ohio. A landfill operated on site from 1959 to 1984. The current owner is SCA Services of Ohio, a subsidiary of Waste Management of North America, Inc. Commercial, industrial and non-hazardous domestic wastes were disposed of at the landfill, leading to soil and groundwater contamination. The landfill closed in 1984 and was partially capped. The area of waste disposal covers about 36 of the site’s 70 acres, and rises 30 to 40 feet above the surrounding terrain. Long-term cleanup and monitoring are ongoing.
