EPA Superfund Program: BIG D CAMPGROUND, KINGSVILLE, OH

Superfund Site Profile

The Big D Campground (Big D) site is located in Kingsville in Ashtabula County, Ohio. The area was originally a sand and gravel pit. From 1964 to 1976, wastes were dumped in the pit. The pit contained drummed hazardous wastes attributed to the Olin Corporation (Olin), the site’s potentially responsible party (PRP). Leachate from the site contaminated Conneaut Creek with chlorobenzene. Groundwater was contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and heavy metals. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities are ongoing.
