EPA Superfund Program: HUNTS DISPOSAL LANDFILL, CALEDONIA, WI

Superfund Site Profile

The 35-acre Hunts Disposal Landfill is located in southeastern Wisconsin. The site was originally an abandoned sand and gravel pit. The area was then an open dump from 1959 to 1974, reportedly accepting municipal, industrial and construction wastes. Facility operations contaminated soil, groundwater, sediment in a nearby river and landfill wastes. Groundwater currently used as drinking water has not been affected by contamination from the site. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities and monitoring are ongoing.
