The ASARCO Taylor Springs site is located in Taylor Springs, Illinois. The area covers about 533 acres, of which 96 acres comprise the former site operations area. Currently, the site is not in use.
Beginning in 1911, a zinc smelter and zinc oxide production facility operated on the site. Operators of the zinc oxide plant stored a significant amount of slag from mining and processing zinc in waste piles on 12 acres of the site.
