Superfund Site Profile
The Pester Refinery Site is located on a 10-acre tract to the north and west of the city of El Dorado, in Butler County, Kansas. The site was originally comprised of a burn pond in which petroleum wastes were ignited as a common practice in the refinery operations. The refinery, which was adjacent to and west of the site prior to its demolition, was not within the site boundary. The pond was dewatered prior to initiating the remedial action for the 2006 solidification remedy. The West Branch Walnut River flows along the northern and eastern edge of the site.
