EPA Superfund Program: DOEPKE DISPOSAL (HOLLIDAY), SHAWNEE MISSION, KS

Superfund Site Profile

The 80-acre Doepke Disposal (Holliday) site is located in Johnson County, Kansas. From 1963 to 1970, an industrial and commercial landfill operated on site. Site operators placed 3 million cubic yards of waste in the landfill. When the State of Kansas closed the site in 1970, it was covered. Sampling later found that groundwater near the site contained heavy metals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and pesticides. Following cleanup, operation and maintenance activities and monitoring are ongoing.
