EPA Superfund Program: HASTINGS GROUND WATER CONTAMINATION, HASTINGS, NE

Superfund Site Profile

The Hastings Ground Water Contamination Site is located in and around Hastings, Nebraska. Commercial grain fumigants containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) contaminated public and private water supplies. Further investigations revealed contamination from a vapor degreasing operation, former landfills and an industrial park. Contaminants of concern included trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), vinyl chloride, polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), explosives and metals. Some subsites and residential properties have been cleaned up. However, environmental risks remain and long-term cleanup is ongoing. Operation and maintenance activities and monitoring are ongoing.
