Superfund Site Profile

Edwards Air Force Base, which is used for aircraft research and development, covers about 301,000 acres in Kern County, California. Spills and poor disposal practices have resulted in the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), metals and other chemicals to the ground. Following immediate actions to protect human health and the environment, site investigations and long-term cleanup planning are ongoing.
