EPA Superfund Program: PACIFIC HIDE & FUR RECYCLING CO., POCATELLO, ID

Superfund Site Profile

The 17-acre Pacific Hide & Fur Recycling Company site is located along the northwestern edge of Pocatello, Idaho, on State Highway 30 West. The site was used as part of a gravel mining operation as early as 1949. From the late 1950s to 1983, a metal salvaging yard operated on site. Salvaging operations included disposal of scrap metal including vehicles, truck bodies, machinery, wire rope, tin cans, battery casings, as well as electrical transformer carcasses and capacitors containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) into a large gravel pit. Pacific Steel Recycling currently operates a scrap-metal recycling facility on part of the site. The site is cleaned up and no longer requires operation and maintenance activities.
